Our history

The development of the first decentralized university campus in Romagna.

Officially founded on 1st October 2001, the Campus of Forlì actually represents the ultimate step of a process aimed to the creation of a new model of university development based on the decentralization and the organization of the universities into different branches. The University of Bologna has implemented a multi-campus structure to enhance the expansion of the teaching offer and to allow the activation of a consolidated research activity in the territory, in the attempt of improving the academic activities functioning and the quality of life for students and teachers.

The Campus of Forlì takes its first steps in 1989 with the settlement in the city of the degree course on Political and International Science, derived from Faculty of Political Science in Bologna, and with the establishment of the School of Modern Languages for Interpreters and Translators (SSLMIT). The development of the educational and training offer in Forlì has continued with the arrival of other degree courses subordinated to the Faculty of Economics (1991) and the Faculty of Engineering (1992) of Bologna, while the Faculty of Political Science has enlarged its range of degree courses in the territory.

Since the very beginning, the teaching offer of this Campus has been characterized by highly qualifying degree courses and by a particular attention for the current job market, which is more and more integrated and open to a globalized and innovative economy: within this context, the internationally-oriented degree courses of the Faculty of Political Science and the specialized translation and interpreting degree courses of the SSLMIT find a proper collocation together with the non-profit and business management degree courses activated at the Faculty of Economics, the degree course in aerospace engineering (Faculty of Engineering) and the degree courses in social studies and criminology (Faculty of Political Science). The Campus academic offer is organized into 4 Faculties, for a total of 11 undergraduate or first-level degree courses and 11 postgraduate or second-level degree courses.

In the year 2000, the Campus has also seen the foundation of the first Department - the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies in Translation, Languages and Cultures (SITLeC), which develops and promotes research activities in the field of interlanguage and intercultural communications and translation. The Department activities involve a wide range of subjects, from linguistics to anthropology, from the literary and text studies to the study of advanced linguistic skills and their acquisition.

Finally, starting from the month of May 2003, the CLIRO – the Language Centre of the Universities Campuses in Romagna has been founded to offer language courses and self-learning tools for the study of a second language to all students and university personnel at the Faculties in Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini. The main goal of the CLIRO is to encourage the study of one or more foreign languages in support of the existing degree courses within the Campus. In recent years, the Campus has expanded its activity to a wide range of Master’s degree courses and to high training.

A good university is first of all characterized by the quality of its teachers, which is measured on the basis of their teaching skills and the scientific level of their research projects. The fact that the Campus of Forlì is part of the University of Bologna is guarantee of its quality standards at an international level. But a good university also distinguishes itself for the qualitative level and the efficiency of its services. For these purposes, the Administration of the Campus is particularly engaged in an efficient management of its services and in offering an adequate training to its staff. At every office and structure of this Campus, students can find a qualified personnel eager to provide useful and complete information, and a general satisfaction for its academic needs. In addition to the teaching area, the services offered to students cover the three fundamental stages of the academic career: the arrival and enrolment (Public Relations Office, Registry Office, Arstud), the academic career (International Relations, University Library, Computer’s Centre, Linguistic Centre, Psychological Service for Students) and the entry into the job market (Career Service, Punto Europa).
